Title: Loan Specialist

Reports To: Chief Loan Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt


The Loan Specialist will be responsible for processing, intake, and assisting in generating funding for UHI’s loan programs through closing loans through our in-house and correspondent loan programs.

This position will work independently and in collaboration with the Chief Loan Officer to execute daily responsibilities, and special projects. This position will be responsible for the care of our customers, coordinating with our borrowers and UHI staff.


Education and Experience

  • Degree in Business, Accounting/Bookeeping or similar field preferred
  • Or 3+ years’ experience in lending industry (mortgage preferred, consumer and/or commercial)
  • MS Office, Adobe and knowledge of online data management software

Knowledge and Skills

  • Requires the ability to learn multiple operational software systems
  • Requires familiarity with multiple government regulations in Fair Housing and lending
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, familiarity with Caylx or other Underwriting software systems
  • Good organization skills and problem solving, detail oriented
  • Ability to manage relationships with multiple interests
  • Ability to present and report to Board of Directors and/or Committee members
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. 


The incumbent must perform certain tasks including but not limited to:

  • Register and log loan applications received from the Chief Loan Officer/Loan officer.
  • Check all incoming files for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review credit reports and address issues if appropriate.
  • Obtain additional documentation as needed to complete loan files.
  • Process loan applications in a timely and accurate matter.
  • Update customer and loan information on the Lending Pipeline and Calyx.
  • Order appraisals, surveys, flood certifications, VOM and VOE.
  • As required, cross train and provide backup support to the Chief Loan Officer.
  • Prepare Closing documents and arrange closings with the attorney.
  • Arrange counseling sessions with the Home Buyer Education Department.
