COVID-19 Housing Assistance

Since the beginning of the pandemic, United Housing has aimed to alleviate our clients’ burdens caused by COVID-19. We want to help you keep a roof over your head by sharing reliable information with you.

United Housing no longer accepts online applications. Applications are taken by appointment only after the prescreening process. Please review the guidelines below for eligibility and contact us at (901)272-1122 for next available appointment.

Please note the process takes 4 - 6 weeks after submission.

COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program

Are you behind on mortgage or rent payments and in danger of losing your home due to a COVID-19 related hardship? United Housing wants to help you keep your home. Through our new COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program, clients who have experienced a documented loss due to COVID-19 will be eligible for financial assistance and counseling services. 

 *Program Eligibility Guidelines: 

  1. Must live in City of Memphis limits (unincorporated Shelby County not eligible). 

  2. Must have a minimum of 30% income loss due to COVID-19 hardship, which may include job loss, wage reduction, increase in childcare expenses or medical expenses due to COVID-19. 

  3. Proof of mortgage obligations (mortgage statements, mortgage verification, etc.). 

  4. Proof of rental obligations (lease and rental ledger).

  5. Landlord must be willing to participate in the program. We do not make checks payable to tenants.

  6. If approved, this program will pay up to 6 months at the maximum of $8,400.

Applicants must provide: 

  1. Proof of income (income limits may apply). 

  2. Proof of hardship due to COVID-19 (unemployment letter or separation notice, bank statements showing income loss, proof of increase of childcare expenses, and/or increase of medical expenses due to COIVD-19 etc.). 

  3. Proof of mortgage or rental delinquency since March 1, 2020. 

  4. Must provide federal ID (driver's license or state ID).
